Indonesian aircraft were deployed to scatter 1.5 tons of dry ice — solid carbon dioxide — over South Sumatra on Thursday in a trial meant to disperse wildfire haze, targeting Palembang and an adjacent district. Unlike cloud seeding, the technique is not intended to produce rainfall but instead break down lower-atmosphere haze, allowing it to rise upwards.
