The Facts

At the third Special General Border Committee Meeting on Saturday, Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister General Tea Seiha and Thailand's Defense Minister General Nattaphon Narkphanit agreed to a 72-hour "immediate" ceasefire starting at 12 p.m. local time.

The ceasefire terms prohibit all weapons fire, attacks on civilians and infrastructure, troop movements toward the other side's positions, reinforcements along the 508-mile border and provocative actions, including airspace violations. Both sides committed to refraining from disseminating false information.

Thailand agreed to return 18 Cambodian soldiers captured during the conflict after the ceasefire holds for 72 hours. The ASEAN Observer Team, led by Malaysia's Assistant Defence Attache Brigadier General Samsul Rizal bin Musa, will verify compliance with the agreement.

Both countries committed to allowing displaced civilians to return home safely and to resume Joint Boundary Commission survey and demarcation work. The arrangements were made without prejudice to border demarcation, with existing coordination mechanisms to manage ground situations.
