Philippine Court Orders Vice President Sara Duterte Arrested

The Facts

A Quezon City Regional Trial Court issued an arrest warrant against Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte on Friday over three counts of grave threats and set bail at 120,000 pesos ($1,915) per count, totaling 360,000 pesos ($5,745).

The charges stem from a November 2024 online press conference in which Duterte claimed she had hired a hitman to kill President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his wife Liza Araneta-Marcos and then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she were killed first.

Duterte's lawyer Paul Lawrence Lim confirmed the warrant and said his client "has no intention of evading the law and will continue to exercise all her legal remedies." Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the Duterte camp intended to post bail as soon as possible.
