Israel faces deep political divisions, but its elections have once again demonstrated the enduring strength of its democracy. Voters can challenge those in power, parties can openly contest the country's direction and allegations of foreign funding face serious public scrutiny. That democratic resilience demands a firm commitment to national security: dismantling Hamas and confronting violent settler extremism are equally essential to upholding the rule of law.
Israel's elections may project an image of democracy, but primarily expose a divided country built on a cruel system of domination over Palestinians. Even Eisenkot, portrayed as a moderate, offers no break from military occupation, systematic dispossession and denial of Palestinian rights. Electoral competition means little when millions of Palestinians remain denied equality and political freedom. Changing the government does not dismantle a system of oppression.
