Venezuela: Interim Government, Opposition Announce Formal Talks

Is this a genuine push toward democratic transition or a veiled effort to preserve the status quo?

The Spin

Pro-Trump narrative

The U.S.-led negotiation process with Venezuela's interim government is exactly the kind of push democratic institutions need to get back on track. Rebuilding Venezuela's electoral system is the right move, as rushing to the ballot box without fixing broken institutions would just repeat past failures. The process matters more than any single leader, and that's what makes this effort worth backing.

Anti-Trump narrative

The so-called unity push in Venezuela is already cracking, with Dinorah Figuera openly sidelining María Corina Machado while the Trump administration quietly blocks the Nobel Peace Prize laureate from returning to her country. Trump has zero interest in pushing for legitimate elections, as the current arrangement with Delcy Rodríguez is too convenient to give up only to please Florida Republicans.
