Version 7.18.2
Letting a Chinese-controlled AI system anywhere near federal networks is an open invitation for Beijing to harvest sensitive data. Free, open-weight models flooding the market are a classic dumping strategy meant to undercut American developers and lock the world into tools the CCP can quietly tilt. Chinese systems rightly belong far away from Washington's apparatus.
Stretching the concept of national security to cover any Chinese software turns healthy technology competition into a political weapon. Open-weight models that can be inspected and run locally offer cheaper tools and more transparency than closed American alternatives. Blanket bans issued without evidence punish companies for nationality alone and, in turn, undermine global innovation.
Tit-for-tat model restrictions between U.S. and China are counterproductive when the world demands cooperation. As the technological walls in Washington and Beijing get higher and higher, the innovation race becomes increasingly risky for all. It is time for both nations to come together and agree mutual AI safety standards.
