Version 7.18.3
The raw numbers are finally out, and with revenue climbing this fast while compute costs per dollar of sales keep falling, this IPO makes total sense. A 20x sales multiple is also routine for elite tech names, so this price tag looks reasonable rather than inflated. Leading with the risks instead of burying them shows a business confident enough to let investors judge for themselves.
Handing founders a blank check and permanent voting control, with no long-term customer contracts and half of sales routed through rivals' marketplaces, is a raw deal for retail buyers. Selectively leaked run-rate figures that wilt under scrutiny are also no substitute for audited books, so floating a massive loss machine this size only piles more risk on an already overstretched market.
On top of the obscene amount of money Anthropic is seeking, it's pursuing this IPO while publicly stating, in its filing, that its growth could end the world. Perhaps a company, one that admits its IPO may pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity," should take a breath before putting a trillion-dollar price tag on the end of the world.
