Surgeons at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London performed the world's first AI-assisted brain tumor removal in May on Rhys Hibbert, 48, of Bedfordshire, England. Reports of the procedure, which saved the patient's sight, were published Thursday.

The AI analyzed a live surgical video feed in real time, using color coding to highlight critical structures, including blood vessels and optic nerves, near Hibbert's 11mm pituitary gland tumor. Surgeons retained full control throughout.
