- U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters Tuesday that Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) could be deported, adding she "could also go to jail." He called the Minnesota Democrat "sick," "very dishonest," and "a disgrace" to America, calling her birth country, Somalia, "a real s***house."
- This comes after Border czar Tom Homan said on Fox News that Omar could lose her U.S. citizenship and be deported if investigators prove immigration fraud, adding that he had been told "they have a strong case" while declining to detail their findings.
- Omar's attorneys, Amy Jeffress and Joshua Matz, sent a letter to federal prosecutors Friday demanding the return of seized property and calling the investigation into her immigration history "vindictive, retributive, and politically motivated."

Unleashing the full weight of the federal government on a lawmaker whose real offense is criticizing the president is raw political retaliation. Immigration law somehow never gets this aggressive when the paperwork belongs to billionaire donors or presidential relatives. Once dissent becomes grounds for denaturalization, no citizen's status is safe.
Pro-Trump narrative
Citizenship obtained through lies is fraud, and holding office shouldn't buy a lifetime exemption from the law. Evidence, not incumbency, ought to decide whether charges follow, and prison is a fair outcome when the fraud is proven. Letting a member of Congress skate would tell every immigrant that honesty on the forms is optional.
