The Spin

Republican narrative

From the beginning, this was an insurrection, not a peaceful protest. First, these left-wing, NGO-funded rioters physically assaulted immigration officers to prevent them from arresting illegal aliens. Then, when the police rightfully labeled their actions as illegal, they escalated their violence, burning down city streets and throwing blunt objects at officers. These rioters started a war against the federal government, which is why Trump swiftly sent in military forces to keep the peace.

Democratic narrative

The LA protesters, many of whom are from or have familial roots in Latin America, were rightfully protesting, not rioting, over Trump's blatant use of the military for political gain. Not only has he used armed agents to terrorize immigrants, but, just like the Latin American dictators of the 20th century, he's deployed thousands of heavily-armed soldiers to patrol civilian streets. Allowing him to continue this reign of terror will only embolden his authoritarian ambitions.

Establishment-critical narrative

Regardless of party affiliation or views on deportation, there is something much bigger going on regarding these protests and riots. While everyone bickers over the old-fashioned police and troop deployments, the federal government is quietly recruiting surveillance software companies like Palantir to monitor everyone, not just criminals and immigrants. All Americans should join together against the security establishment's growing power over society.
