The Spin

Pro-government narrative

Saudi Arabia is playing a decisive role in pushing for peace in Sudan, reportedly blocking a $1.5 billion Pakistan arms deal and backing the Sudanese Armed Forces against RSF aggression. The Burhan–MBS meeting in Jeddah reinforced both nations’ stated commitment to Sudan’s sovereignty and stability. Saudi diplomatic leadership — rather than further military escalation — is emerging as the clearest and most viable path to ending this brutal conflict.

Government-critical narrative

Saudi Arabia blocking the Pakistan arms deal reveals the nation's geopolitical maneuvering while Sudan burns. The UAE’s backing of the RSF has fueled atrocities in Darfur, and Gulf rivalry has turned Sudan into a proxy battleground where civilians pay the price. Real peace requires dismantling the authoritarian SAF faction, not propping it up with Saudi political cover and selective arms embargoes, which only deepen the conflict and prolong the suffering.
