Ex-Judge's Conviction in ICE Obstruction Case Upheld

Was Judge Dugan's arrest an attack on judicial independence or a justified response to obstruction of justice?

The Spin

Left narrative

Arresting Judge Dugan over an administrative warrant — a document with zero judicial authority — is a naked attempt to bully the courts into serving as an arm of ICE enforcement. Administrative warrants don't compel cooperation from judges, and managing courtroom proceedings is exactly what judges are supposed to do.

Right narrative

A judge's status isn't a get-out-of-jail-free card — if Dugan actively directed a defendant through a private hallway to help him dodge federal agents, that's obstruction. The jury convicted her, she resigned, and a federal judge has now upheld the felony. Accountability applies to everyone, not just ordinary citizens.
