The Facts

German startup Isar Aerospace launched its Spectrum rocket into orbit Saturday from Andøya Spaceport in northern Norway, marking the first successful commercial orbital launch from continental European soil on the company's second flight.

The 28-meter, two-stage rocket lifted off at 10:12 p.m. local time, carrying five small satellites and an in-flight technology experiment. Isar said the vehicle reached orbital velocity, completed a circularization burn and separated its payloads.

Isar's first Spectrum flight in March 2025 ended about 30 seconds after liftoff, when the rocket lost attitude control and fell into the sea. The company traced the failure to an unintended vent valve opening.
