Netanyahu's attempt to hang onto power to dodge a corruption verdict has cost Israel dearly — a battered economy, an exhausted military and a trashed global standing. Preaching 'unity' only when the clock runs out is pure spin from a leader who sabotaged every coalition deal signed. A new government built on real principles is long overdue.
A coalition propped up by parties that excuse terrorism would never fight terrorism, nor remove the nuclear threat coming from Iran. Handing leverage to factions that smear soldiers and question Israel's very existence would hollow out the Jewish state from within. A broad unity government of Zionist parties is the only responsible path forward.
Herzog's decision changes little beyond the political theater. Israel's leadership may rotate, but its machinery of occupation, military aggression and regional coercion remains intact. Whether Netanyahu or Eisenkot governs, Palestinians and neighboring countries are unlikely to see meaningful change.
