Latest IPCC Report: "Now or Never" on Climate Change

The latest, and sixth, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report published Mon. issued a stark "now or never" call to action. IPCC labeled countries that continue to increase production of fossil fuels as "dangerous radicals."
This is the first IPCC report focused on climate mitigation measures since the Paris Climate Agreement. The IPCC focused on solutions that would limit warming to 1.5C.
UN Secretary General António Guterres said that the data shows the globe is on a "fast track" to climate disaster. The current pace of warming could more than double the 1.5C limit that was agreed upon in the 2015 Paris Climate Accords.
Narrative A
The current rate of global warming is on track to smash 3C above baseline in the coming decades, and parts of Earth won't be fit for human habitation. People can expect severe crop failures and rising seas that will wipe coastal cities from the map. Time's running out and CO2 emissions are still increasing.
Narrative B
The approach of this report is disingenuous. IPCC's consumer-driven strategy will result in a whirlwind of campaigns from governments and big brands trying to persuade to us to eat less meat, travel by public transportation, and reduce our energy consumption. There will be PR campaigns to "save the Earth," while big businesses pump out more CO2 to make chique sustainable products.
Narrative C
The IPCC report means a disproportionate impact for the globe's most vulnerable. We have to immediately scale up preparation for the millions who are about to be displaced. This is a human crisis making life harder for those already suffering.
Trans Athletes Banned from UK Female Cycling Events, Pending Policy Review

On Fri., British Cycling banned trans women from competing in female cycling events, pending a policy review. They cited discrepancies between their code and that of the international cycling body, UCI.
This follows the barring of transgender cyclist Emily Bridges from competing in the women's British National Omnium championship last weekend.
Beginning March 2020, UCI implemented a regulation requiring transgender women's testosterone levels to be below 5 nmol/L for at least 12 months prior to competing in women's events.
Left narrative
The regulation of women's sports unfairly targets athletes who are considered excessively masculine. Among elite athletes, both men and women can carry similar levels of testosterone. The notion that a 'woman' is defined as someone with a 'normal' testosterone level is nonsensical.
Right narrative
Trans athletes have no place in women's sports. Sport is about the body, and male and female bodies are just different. Cisgender female athletes are at risk of being left to compete for second place against trans competitors with an obvious biological advantage.
US Secretly Tested Hypersonic Missile

The US has successfully tested a sophisticated new hypersonic cruise missile system, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) announced on Tues.
The test of the Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC), developed by Lockheed Martin, was conducted off America's west coast and flew above 65,000 feet for more than 300 miles. It reached speeds faster than Mach 5 (5 times the speed of sound) using an Aerojet Rocketdyne 'scramjet' engine.
An unnamed Pentagon official told CNN the test took place in mid-March, but was kept quiet to avoid escalating tensions with Russia as Pres. Joe Biden visited Europe.
Establishment-critical narrative
The US, Russia and China all point to each other's development of these weapons as a justification for their own. This arms race risks bleak consequences for the future of humanity, especially as these weapons systems are capable of delivering nuclear warheads.
Pro-establishment narrative
When Putin fired a hypersonic missile at Ukraine, it was the first case of the use of these weapons in combat in the world. Right now the United States is trailing behind Russia and China. The US must ramp up efforts to protect itself and its Western allies.
Secret Service Paying $30K a Month For Mansion Near Hunter Biden
An ABC News report has revealed that the Secret Service is spending more than $30k per month on a Malibu mansion being used as a command house to protect Pres. Biden's son Hunter Biden.
The property is nearby Hunter Biden's own rented mansion which costs around $20K per month.
The secret service is legally required to protect the president, vice president, and their families. According to former secret service agent Don Mihalek, the security detail requires a base close to Hunter Biden's home.
Right narrative
Although the Secret Service is required by law to protect Hunter Biden, it is not required to spend an exorbitant amount of tax dollars to do so. The agency is going beyond its duties to accommodate Mr. Biden, especially in comparison with its protection of Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner which cost just $3K per month.
Pro-establishment narrative
The Secret Service renting the closest property to a protectee is nothing new and Hunter Biden is far from the first presidential protectee to live in an expensive location. While $30k per month sounds costly, it is only a fraction of the price spent to protect the former president's children.
Airbnb Cancels Reservations In Russia, Bans Residents

Home rental company Airbnb said late on Mon. that all reservations in Russia and Belarus starting on or after Apr. 4 had been cancelled.
The company has also banned residents of Russia and Belarus from booking or staying at any Airbnb location worldwide.
Confusion was sparked Tues. due to a mistranslation of the Russian-language statement, which indicated that the ban would apply to all Russian and Belarusian nationals rather than residents of the two nations.
Establishment-critical narrative
These sanctions are unfair and there is a clear risk they will lead to widespread Russophobia. It's not just the sanctions on Russian oligarchs, but there are also many informal sanctions on Russian people, culture and business. This is cancel culture stigmatizing an entire population for the crimes of one autocrat.
Pro-establishment narrative
Harsh economic sanctions are the West's best hope for deterring Putin and halting his invasion. This is a good start, and Russia's economy is already starting to crack. But even more is needed to bring Putin to the negotiating table.
Narrative C
Airbnb banning users for political reasons isn't new. However, its decision of blacklisting the population of Russia and Belarus is extreme, baffling and hypocritical, as the company keeps operating in other countries known for human rights abuses, including China.
Palm Springs Approves Funding for Potential Transgender, Non-binary UBI Program

The Palm Springs CA City Council has unanimously approved allocating $200K to DAP Health and Queer Works, two organizations that hope to launch a pilot guaranteed income program to transgender and non-binary residents.
The pilot would provide between $600 and $900 per month to those enrolled on the program.
The organizations aim to apply for a share of $35M in state funding guaranteed for UBI plans.
Right narrative
This is woke virtue signaling at its worst. These plans are outrageously discriminatory and there would be no proper regulation of how the money in the scheme is distributed.
Left narrative
The organizations have good reason to focus on transgender and non-binary citizens. Transgender people in the US are twice as likely to be unemployed and 29% of transgender people live in poverty compared to 16% of cisgender Americans.
Biden to Propose Change to Affordable Care Act

President Joe Biden has announced intentions for his administration to tweak the Affordable Care Act.
The so-called 'family glitch' has prevented an estimated 5M people from being eligible for the ACA despite being unable to afford care through private health insurace markets.
While the work-based care policy is considered 'affordable' if it's roughly less than 10% of total income for an individual, the 'family glitch' failed to take into consideration incremental increases in premiums for adding family members to the policy.
Right narrative
The reunion of Obama and Biden under the pretense of changes to the ACA is actually intended to raise the President's popularity, which has been dented by record inflation, sluggish economic recovery, and Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Left narrative
Biden is right to praise the work of the Democrat party against attempts by Republicans to undermine the ACA and its benefits for the American people. It seems that he is finally ready to regain political momentum ahead of the midterms.
Former BLM Leader Denies Wrongdoing, Admits Property Use

Patrisse Cullors, a co-founder of Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation (BLMGNF), said in an AP interview that neither she nor anyone else in BLMGNF's leadership misused donations, but she did admit that she had used the organization's $6M property for a "gathering" and her son's birthday party.
Last month, Cullors rebutted a report detailing BLMGNF's purchase of a Southern California home in Oct. 2020 as part of a "racist and sexist" attack on the group.
New York Magazine released the report early last month, claiming that BLMGNF had used donations to secretly buy a large house, known internally as "Campus."
Right narrative
Cullors lied and should face the consequences. She admitted that BLMGNF wasn't prepared to deal with the surge of donations following George Floyd, and that she used the property for personal leisure. To top it off, there's been no new leadership, making BLMGNF seem to purely exist to exploit social tensions.
Left narrative
Cullors is being made a victim of a right-wing smear campaign. Countless nonprofits and companies have expensive offices or headquarters, and this is no different.
Human Rights Groups Accuse Ethiopia of Ethnic Cleansing in Tigray

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch said in a joint report on Wed. that militias and special forces from Ethiopia's Amhara region have waged a campaign of ethnic cleansing against Tigrayans, stressing the Ethiopian military's complicity in those acts.
This follows a months-long investigation which concluded that pro-government forces, including troops from Eritrea, forced Tigrayans to leave their homes in a campaign of unlawful killings, sexual assaults, mass arbitrary detentions, livestock pillaging, and the denial of humanitarian assistance.
After war first erupted in Nov. 2020, the Ethiopian army, alongside Amhara militias, quickly captured most of western Tigray, a region that has been largely inaccessible to journalists and aid agencies since then, and established a new regional administration.
Narrative A
This joint report will only increase animosity and block reconciliation, as it characterizes the Ethiopian side as pure evil. To recognize that there are culpable individuals on both sides is crucial in finding a peaceful solution, and holding them accountable. This must be tackled by institutions established by the Ethiopian constitution, not by international NGOs meddling in domestic affairs.
Narrative B
Despite all groups involved in this conflict having committed atrocities and human rights violations, the Ethiopian government and its allies are responsible for the worst and most systematic crimes, some of which could even be described as genocidal. The international community must act now to condemn and put an end to these atrocities.
Day 43: Ukraine Calls for More Weapons Ahead of NATO Meeting as Russia Says It Destroyed 4 Fuel Storage Facilities

Ukraine's Foreign Minister, Dmytro Kuleba, called on NATO allies to provide more weapons to his country ahead of a foreign ministers' meeting of the military alliance in Brussels on Thurs.
It comes as Russia's Ministry of Defence says it has destroyed 4 fuel storage facilities in the cities of Mykolayiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Chuchiv. The attacks could not be independently confirmed.
The brunt of Russia's offensive continued to strike the besieged southern port city of Mariupol, with air strikes and heavy artillery fire reportedly continuing to strike Ukrainian positions in the last 24 hours.
Anti-Russia narrative
This invasion is an egregious violation of international law. Putin's ultimate aim is to restore the Soviet empire, even if it takes massive bloodshed and false pretexts such as calling the 2014 Ukrainian revolution after a fraudulent election a "coup". This unprovoked attack is the latest chapter in Putin's Orwellian attempt to rewrite history.
Pro-Russia narrative
NATO and the US have ignored Russia's security concerns by breaking its promise not to expand eastward in return for German reunification. These concerns are legitimate and taking them seriously would have avoided the Ukraine tragedy.
Nerd narrative
According to the Metaculus prediction community, if a bilateral cease-fire agreement is reached between Russia and Ukraine this year, it won't take effect until the end of June.
House Finds Trump Aides Scavino and Navarro in Contempt

Congress voted on Wed. to recommend criminal contempt charges against two former Trump aides for defying subpoenas related to the Jan. 6 Select Committee's investigation.
Dan Scavino, Trump's former deputy chief of staff for communications, and Peter Navarro, a trade advisor, will be referred to the DOJ for potential prosecution. If convicted, they would each face up to 1yr in prison and a fine of up to $100K.
The Select Committee voted unanimously on the referrals, but the whole House vote was split 220-203 along party lines, with Reps. Cheney and Kinzinger - who serve on the Select Committee - the lone Republicans to vote in favor of the measure.
Pro-Trump narrative
Nancy Pelosi has weaponized the power of Congress against American citizens who rightfully and lawfully question the legitimacy of the Biden presidency. Her illegitimate panel continues to probe people who had nothing whatsoever to do with the actual attack on the US Capitol. The House Select Committee is putting on a political show trial.
Left narrative
The Select Committee is pursuing the truth about a deadly attack on democracy. Trump's allies have information to offer about the planning of the event and the trail of responsibility, evidence the Committee is seeking through lawful subpoenas. Meanwhile, the GOP Congressional caucus has chosen party over country and spurned their oaths to uphold the Constitution.
FDA Holds Hearing on COVID Vaccines as Questions Over Boosters Remain

On Wed., a panel of experts met with the US FDA to discuss the future of the nation's COVID vaccine policy.
The purpose of the meeting was to begin the transition from emergency response to long-term planning. The panel has yet to decide a definitive plan to roll out additional shots.
With concerns of new variants and another wave of infections in the fall, the FDA's vaccine chief Dr. Peter Marks urged that a strategy be decided by June.
Right narrative
Cases and deaths are plummeting, yet the federal government continues to peddle COVID hysteria and further boosters that have questionable effectiveness. We need to focus on severe illness and death and learn to live with the virus.
Left narrative
Just because cases are low at the moment doesn't mean they will remain that way. We have seen this happen before and need to be proactive in combating another wave. The FDA recommends flu vaccines every year, and dealing with COVID should be no different.
Pelosi Latest DC Official to Test Positive for COVID
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has tested positive for COVID, the latest in a line of high-profile breakthrough cases among officials in Washington.
A Pelosi spokesperson said the Speaker is fully vaccinated and boosted and hasn't had any symptoms.
Although she attended a bill-signing ceremony with Pres. Biden while not wearing a mask, the White House said he has tested negative and wasn't considered a close contact based on CDC guidelines.
Republican narrative
Irony has come home to roost for the Democrats, who were all gung-ho about COVID shutdowns, masking and vaccinations, yet couldn't stop spreading the virus amongst each other.
Democratic narrative
This is what sound COVID response anchored in science is all about - not denying the virus's severity as the GOP so often does. Testing prevented further spread, and being vaccinated and boosted allowed Pelosi and others to avoid severe symptoms or hospitalization.
