Hamas agreed to some parts of U.S. President Donald Trump's Gaza peace deal,the Israeli Navy intercepted a Gaza-bound aid flotilla,Israel's defense minister reported that Gaza City was almost completely encircled,and Hamas claimed responsibility for a rocket barrage on Ashdod.This comes as Trump signed an order protecting Qatar,Netanyahu apologized to Qatar for a recent strike on Doha,and the U.S. reduced its troop levels in Iraq to under 2,000.Elsewhere, the U.S. and Russia gave conflicting accounts on the Ukraine war,France's military arrested two crew members from a Russian-linked oil tanker,the seventh European Political Community Summit was held in Copenhagen,and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced 2 billion of drone purchases for Ukraine.In other news, Trump and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth addressed hundreds of military leaders at an impromptu summit,the U.N. approved a "gang suppression force" for Haiti,and a car bomb in Pakistan killed at least 11.

World Politics

Trump announced a 100% tariff on all foreign-made movies,and the U.S. announced new sanctions on Tehran,as it deported over 100 Iranian nationals.This comes as the EU saw a rise in deportation rates during this year's second quarter,the U.K.'s Foreign Influence Registration Scheme came into full effect,and Telegram founder Pavel Durov accused French intelligence of attempted censorship ahead of Moldova's presidential election.Meanwhile, an aid convoy carrying Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa was attacked by hundreds of people,South Africa's ambassador to France was found dead at a Paris hotel,and Japan's ruling conservative party selected Sanae Takaichi as its new leader.Elsewhere, tens of thousands held strikes in France over austerity measures,three were killed during anti-government protests in Morocco,Madagascar's President Andry Rajoelina dissolved his government after three days of deadly protests,and former Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila was sentenced to death for war crimes.In other news, Canada labeled India's Bishnoi Gang a terrorist organization,India and China resumed direct flights after a five-year suspension,and Argentina's Senate overturned President Javier Milei's vetoes of pediatric emergency and university funding laws.

US Politics

The government shut down as the Senate failed to pass a funding bill,the Trump administration froze $26 billion in funding to Democratic states,and the FBI ended its partnership with the Anti-Defamation League.This comes as the Supreme Court temporarily rejected Trump's bid to remove Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook,Trump withdrew his nomination of E.J. Antoni to lead the Bureau of Labor Statistics,and Google was accused of omitting AI summaries for queries about Trump’s mental acuity.Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Human Services initiated debarment proceedings against Harvard University,the White House asked nine universities to sign a compact in exchange for funding preference,and a judge blocked Trump's plan to cut over 500 jobs at the U.S. Agency for Global Media.In other news, a U.S. citizen filed a lawsuit alleging he was improperly detained by immigration officers,dozens were arrested in an immigration raid on a Chicago apartment,and Apple removed an immigration officer tracking app from its App Store.

Civil Liberties

A judge ruled that the Trump administration violated the First Amendment by deporting pro-Palestine student protesters,a Spanish priest faced trial over his comments on Islam,and the U.K. reviewed rules for the use of facial recognition technology by police.Meanwhile, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a second generic abortion pill,five U.N. experts condemned Iran's scale of executions,as Tehran executed an alleged Mossad spy,and Afghanistan ended a 48-hour nationwide internet blackout.

Crime & Justice

A car-ramming and stabbing attack at a Manchester synagogue killed two,with Israel criticizing Keir Starmer's government over the attack,Michigan police identified a suspect in an attack on a Mormon church that killed four,and the U.S. State Department published its 2025 Trafficking in Persons report.

Business

Elon Musk became the first person to hit a $500 billion net worth,as he announced his Wikipedia alternative "Grokipedia,"and backed calls for a Netflix boycott,and Snapchat announced plans to charge users for excess "memories" storage.Meanwhile, TikTok was accused of recommending pornographic content to minors,Spotify founder Daniel Ek announced plans to step down as CEO,YouTube agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle Trump's account suspension lawsuit,and Taiwan rejected a U.S. proposal for a 50-50 split in semiconductor production.

Money & Economy

The U.S.' September jobs report was delayed,and U.K. Chancellor Rachel Reeves dropped her pledge to not increase taxes.

Trump announced a deal with Pfizer to lower drug prices,and a study found different genetic profiles in early versus late autism.

A 6.9 earthquake killed dozens in the Philippines,and Typhoon Bualoi left at least 50 dead in Vietnam and the Philippines.

NASA revealed plans to sustain human life on the moon within a decade,a study predicted that there's a roughly 4.3% chance that asteroid 2024 YR4 will hit the moon in 2032,and new organic molecules were found on Saturn's moon Enceladus.
