Israel launched a strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar,Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the evacuation of Gaza City,as he signed an agreement to advance a settlement expansion plan in the West Bank,and the U.N. General Assembly backed a two-state solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict.This comes as BBC News reported that members of an anti-Islamic biker club are guarding Gaza aid sites,Israel struck Yemen's capital,and Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency agreed to resume inspections at Iranian facilities.Elsewhere, Poland shot down Russian drones in its airspace,NATO launched an initiative to bolster its defense on Europe's eastern flank,and Russia and Belarus commenced their "Zapad-2025" military exercise.Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth visited Marines and Navy sailors aboard an assault ship off Puerto Rico,Venezuela alleged that the 11 people recently killed during a U.S. boat strike were not gang members,and Australia earmarked AU$1.7B for Ghost Shark autonomous underwater drones.

World Politics

The U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS) agreed to hear Donald Trump's tariff case,South Africa sent officials to the U.S. for trade talks,and Canadian car travel to the U.S. dropped 34% in August.In other news, Sushila Karki was appointed Nepal's interim prime ministerfollowing the resignation of Khadga Prasad Sharma Oli,Sébastien Lecornu was named prime minister of Franceafter François Bayrou was ousted,and Guyanese President Irfaan Ali was sworn in for a second term.This comes as tens of thousands marched across London in a rally led by right-wing activist Tommy Robinson,Norway's ruling Labour Party won the parliamentary election, six Labour MPs entered the race for the U.K.'s deputy leader,and King Charles III and Prince Harry met for the first time in 19 months.Meanwhile, former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced to 27 years in prison after being found guilty of plotting a coup,Thailand's Supreme Court ordered former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra to serve one year in jail,and the U.K. fired its U.S. ambassador.Elsewhere, Netanyahu formally nominated Major General David Zini to serve as the head of the Shin Bet,European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed sanctions on Israel,and Spain announced nine measures against Israel.

US Politics

A suspect was arrested in the assassination of Conservative influencer Charlie Kirk,a poll found that Generation Z's gender gap is widening beyond just politics,and Elon Musk challenged the Associated Press' race capitalization rules.In other news, a judge blocked Trump's firing of Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook,SCOTUS granted Trump a temporary stay on the removal of Federal Trade Commission Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter,an appeals court upheld E. Jean Carroll's $83.3 million verdict against Trump,and a House panel released an alleged letter from Trump to Jeffrey Epstein.This comes as three former FBI officials alleged they were illegally fired,the Missouri House passed a new congressional map,California passed a bill banning masks for federal agents,and Trump announced plans to deploy National Guard troops to Memphis.Meanwhile, SCOTUS allowed Los Angeles immigration raids to continue,Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) launched "Operation Patriot 2.0" in Massachusetts,and a driver was fatally shot after injuring an ICE officer during a traffic stop.

Civil Liberties

Over two dozen U.S. states challenged Massachusetts' gun licensing requirements for out-of-state visitors,Trump announced plans for new guidance to protect prayer in public schools,and a mural by anonymous British street artist Banksy was removed.This comes as global press freedom reportedly hit a 50-year low,and the U.N. warned that North Korea's human rights situation is worsening.

Federal charges were filed in the fatal stabbing of Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in North Carolina,six Israelis were killed in a shooting at a Jerusalem bus stop,Erin Patterson was sentenced to life in the Australian mushroom murder trial,and a South Korean woman was acquitted in a 1964 self-defense case.

Oracle's Larry Ellison briefly overtook Musk as the world's richest person,the Trump family reportedly gained $1.3 billion from crypto ventures in a matter of weeks,and the Murdoch family resolved its succession dispute.Meanwhile, Eightco Holdings’ stock surged 5,700% on a $250 million investment in Sam Altman’s Worldcoin,OpenAI and Microsoft reached a deal on the next phase of their partnership,Paramount Skydance reportedly prepared a bid for Warner Bros. Discovery,and Meta faced whistleblower claims that it suppressed research on child safety risks in virtual reality environments.
