World Politics

Trump sought the U.S. Supreme Court's review of a ruling declaring his global tariffs illegal,the EU advanced trade talks with Mercosur and Mexico,and the European Commission proposed doubling Greenland's funding amid Trump's interest in acquiring the Arctic territory.In other news, China hosted over 20 world leaders at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit,Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping were heard discussing immortality on a hot mic,and Moscow and Beijing inked a gas pipeline deal.Meanwhile, President Irfaan Ali claimed victory in Guyana's general election,Anutin Charnvirakul was elected as Thailand's prime minister,and Canada's federal New Democratic Party launched its 2026 leadership race.This comes as David Lammy was appointed as the U.K.'s deputy prime ministerfollowing the resignation of Angela Rayner,U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer reshuffled his Downing Street team,Romania's ruling coalition faced a no-confidence motion,and Belgium announced plans to recognize the State of Palestine.Elsewhere, the coup trial against former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro began,the U.S. reportedly questioned several Brazilian banks over their compliance with sanctions on Justice Alexandre de Moraes,an appeals court ordered the release of former President Martín Vizcarra,and a Finnish court sentenced a Nigerian separatist leader to six years in prison.

US Politics

Trump dismissed rumors that he had died,former President Joe Biden underwent skin cancer surgery,the Department of Justice opened a criminal investigation into Federal Reserve Gov. Lisa Cook,and New York Rep. Jerry Nadler announced his retirement.Meanwhile, immigration authorities arrested around 475 workers at a Georgia Hyundai plant,a judge ruled that Trump's military deployment to Los Angeles was illegal,the Pentagon sent 600 military lawyers to act as immigration judges,and an appeals court blocked Trump's use of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act for deportations.This comes as the Trump administration ended Temporary Protected Status for more than 250,000 Venezuelans,a judge blocked Trump's $2.2 billion Harvard University funding freeze,and Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser said Trump's 30-day federal takeover of the city's law enforcement will expire on Sept. 10.
