White House Debuts 'Trump TV' Livestream After Press Bans

Banning independent reporters from the White House and then spinning up a government-run YouTube channel is authoritarian stagecraft from a failed president. Calling it "Trump TV" doesn't change the fact that it's propaganda paid for with taxpayer money. And the ratings tell the story: a few thousand viewers watching an 80-day-old Mount Rushmore rerun is not a substitute for real coverage.

For years legacy outlets acted like the official narrator of the presidency, editing and framing every word before Americans ever heard it. A White House livestream of speeches and events cuts out that middleman and lets people judge for themselves, which is the opposite of "state media." Outlets that spent years distorting coverage have no standing to complain about losing the microphone.
