Version 7.18.2
Any government that expects easy access to British visas while refusing to take back its own criminals and failed asylum seekers has forfeited that privilege. Leverage works — Angola, Namibia and Congo all folded and resumed accepting deportees once visa perks were put on the line. Leaving convicted offenders stranded in Britain because a foreign regime refuses to cooperate is an unacceptable public safety failure.
Slamming the door on Eritreans punishes the very people fleeing one of the world's most repressive regimes, where conscription can last a lifetime and returnees risk prison and torture. A blanket ban won't deliver more removals when the overwhelming majority of these asylum claims are found genuine and legally protected. Fixing a broken asylum system beats political grandstanding at the expense of refugees.
