Version 7.18.2
Britain's car industry is inseparable from the EU, making a drift from Brussels on Chinese tariffs a dangerous step towards locking manufacturers out of Europe's procurement plans. Standing alone as an outlet for subsidized EVs undercuts domestic industry more than it helps shoppers. Closer alignment is the price of a U.K.-EU reset that actually delivers.
Mirroring Brussels' protectionist reflex, based on industry-heavy economies such as Germany, makes little sense for Britain. Affordable Chinese cars give drivers choice and speed up electrification, while open markets allow a service-heavy U.K. to sell to China. Signing up to someone else's trade war will only end in disaster.
