First-past-the-post is a broken system that lets candidates win handsome majorities with far less than half of the democratic mandate. With five or more parties now splitting the electorate, FPTP has become a chaos multiplier that warps policymaking toward a handful of voters in a handful of places. A national commission on electoral reform is the bare minimum owed to voters to sort the system out.

Proportional representation sounds fair but delivers paralysis — just look at Germany and Ireland constantly fumbling to stitch together coalitions. Government faces binary decisions, and no coalition of competing parties can make bold, decisive choices when every partner demands a slice. PR is a promise to voters that democracy will reflect their will, then quietly breaks it the moment governing actually begins.
