Beyond superficial devolution proposals, Burnham's pitch to Labour MPs seems more to be fixated on appeasing the backbench mob that have consistently refused to accept the changes the country desperately needs. Yet already there is discontent, with over 80 MPs calling for immigration reforms to be scrapped. Britain is left wondering which is worse: an incoming prime minister without a real democratic mandate, or the country continuing to be held hostage by those who care more about ideology than success.
