The Spin

Anti-Trump narrative

Trump is turning disaster aid into a political weapon, approving over 84% of requests from red states while green-lighting less than half of those from blue states. Red states also get approved twice as fast, and states that exceeded FEMA's damage threshold still got denied if they voted Democratic. Disaster relief has never been — and should never be — a reward for political loyalty.

Pro-Trump narrative

Blue states have been hemorrhaging nearly $2 trillion in wealth to red states over the past decade, and federal grants to those same blue states have been riddled with waste, fraud and ideological pet projects. Cutting off funds tied to mismanagement and sanctuary policies is accountability. Taxpayers shouldn't bankroll states that burn through money on Green New Deal schemes and DEI programs. Besides, a major-needed overhaul of how disaster funds are distributed is a priority for the Trump administration.
