Paying nearly $1.22 billion in public funds to kill clean energy projects is a reckless misuse of money that Americans never agreed to spend. Wind farms that could have powered millions of homes are being scrapped in favor of costlier, dirtier alternatives — and consumers will foot that bill too. This administration has now burned close to $4 billion dismantling renewable energy, and that number keeps climbing.
No taxpayer dollars were spent here. RWE's own settlement funds are being redirected into LNG infrastructure and natural gas projects in states like California and Louisiana that deliver reliable, affordable power. Offshore wind required massive subsidies and couldn't meet real demand, so scrapping those leases actually protects Americans from higher electric bills. Redeploying that capital into dependable baseload energy is exactly the kind of common-sense approach the country needs.
