The Spin

Pro-government narrative

Syria's new government is doing the right thing by voluntarily disclosing nuclear material left behind by Assad and opening its doors to IAEA inspectors. That kind of transparency deserves recognition — the material is being placed under international safeguards exactly as it should be. This is what responsible governance looks like after decades of secrecy.

Government-critical narrative

Sharaa spent years running an Al-Qaeda affiliate before seizing Damascus, and now the world is supposed to trust him holding onto tons of nuclear material. The IAEA chief himself warned it could be put to bad use, yet Syria is refusing to let it leave the country. Eighteen months of new leadership doesn't erase the jihadist past driving this regime.
