Optogenetics has transformed neuroscience by turning neural circuits from theoretical maps into experimentally testable systems. Its emerging clinical applications, including efforts to restore vision, demonstrate how fundamental discoveries can translate into therapies while opening new possibilities for treating complex brain diseases.
Optogenetics may represent a remarkable scientific breakthrough, but its therapeutic promise remains unproven. Early findings do not yet establish that these approaches can safely deliver consistent, meaningful benefits for patients. Significant research is still required to determine whether experimental results can completely treat blindness.
