Version 7.18.2
Swapping a clan-elder bargaining system for a real ballot is long-overdue progress for Somalia's democracy. Waiting around for permission from regional bosses who profit from the old backroom deals would only freeze the country in place indefinitely. A firm election date on the calendar gives voters something concrete to look forward to and a genuine chance to shape their country's future.
An expired mandate stretched by constitutional amendments the opposition never signed off on is no path to genuine democracy. Setting a vote without buy-in from major federal member states invites rival polls, deeper political fragmentation and the kind of armed standoff already playing out on the ground. Real political legitimacy comes from a genuinely agreed framework, not a schedule announced by one camp alone.
