Serbia: 150K Rally for Student List Ahead of Sunday Vote
Is Serbia’s Student List a democratic path to reform or an untested movement risking political uncertainty?

The Facts
- About 150,000 people attended the Student List's final campaign rally in Belgrade on Thursday, according to the independent Archive of Public Gatherings. Crowds filled Slavija Square and surrounding blocks ahead of Sunday's parliamentary election.
- Alexandar Vucic held his closing rally Thursday at a sports hall in Belgrade, urging supporters to "defeat [the opposition] decisively." The 56-year-old, who resigned as president to run for prime minister, is predicted a win by several hundred thousand votes.
- Belgrade prosecutors questioned six people Wednesday who were arrested on suspicion of plotting violence, riots and attacks on election day. Civil society groups claim that intimidation, arrests and misuse of public resources have marred the campaign.

Serbia’s Student List is the democratic answer to entrenched rule, media domination and corruption. A leaderless slate rooted in academia and civic life offers credible reform beyond the old political class. Defeating the governing machine would restore accountability and begin a fairer era.
Pro-establishment narrative
Mass enthusiasm is no substitute for a tested governing program. A leaderless slate of political newcomers built around one grievance risks trading continuity for uncertainty, especially when reliable polling is scarce. Electoral legitimacy comes from ballots, not the loudest voice.
