Romanian Police: Tate Brothers Made £1M From Teenage Sex Trafficking Victim

Romanian prosecutors from DIICOT have filed new charges against social media personalities Andrew and Tristan Tate, including human trafficking, money laundering, witness intimidation and the illegal sale of luxury vehicles, expanding on existing charges of rape and forming a criminal gang.

Andrew Tate, 39, is accused of manipulating a then 17-year-old girl into working for the brothers' pornography business between November 2014 and December 2021. DIICOT alleges the brothers obtained approximately £1.1 million ($1.4 million) through her exploitation.

Tristan Tate, 37, is accused of recruiting three additional women between 2018 and 2021 using the "lover boy method," which involves lavish gifts to coerce victims into sex work. DIICOT also alleges he pressured 11 witnesses to give false statements or withdraw their cooperation entirely.

In the U.K., the Crown Prosecution Service has charged the brothers with 21 offenses, including rape, actual bodily harm and human trafficking. Andrew faces 10 charges linked to three alleged victims, while Tristan faces 11 charges connected to one alleged victim.

A High Court judge rejected a legal bid by the Tates to compel prosecutors to disclose the names of their accusers. Justice Chamberlain ruled that the brothers' public profile increased the risk of harm if complainants' identities were revealed.

The Tate brothers have been dragged through years of investigation, asset seizures and restricted travel, and still haven't been convicted. Denying the accused the right to know who is accusing them makes a fair trial nearly impossible, no matter how famous the defendant. A justice system is supposed to protect the victims and the accused, and this one protects neither.
