A governor who lets a major bridge sit closed for nearly three years while commuters crawl through detours has no business asking for another term. Rhode Island transit riders got cuts and excuses instead of competence, and McKee's disapproval rating on the mess says everything. Voters finally did what some blue-state governments wouldn't — hold someone accountable for failing at the basics.
Closing the Washington Bridge was the right call to keep people safe, and punishing a governor for refusing to gamble with lives is backwards. McKee's record speaks louder than traffic — more money for schools, including colleges, every budget year; a millionaires tax funding public education; and the strongest wage package state health workers have seen in years. McKee's results should've counted for more.
