Version 7.11.1
U.S.-Israeli relations must not be shaken by this reporting. A state's intelligence picture can never blindly rely on testimony from other nations that can't always be independently verified due to time or security constraints, but the fact that Trump's team was willing to act at all based on Israeli intelligence speaks volumes about their ongoing alliance. This diplomatic and relationship must endure amid increasing fragility in the Middle East.
This episode of Israel providing the U.S. with faulty intel is analogous with what happened in the wider Iran war. Israel convinced the U.S. that regime change would happen overnight and that the war would be won quickly. Instead, the U.S. found itself committed to a prolonged and complicated conflict. Israeli intelligence should not be trusted and the American voters are cottoning-on that these presumed good relations should face scrutiny.
