Version 7.6.4
The Lyon bodyguard trial is a direct extension of a sprawling rape culture that thrives far beyond any single courtroom. Digital platforms host tens of millions of visits to content featuring drugged, unconscious women, with users openly exchanging tips on how to assault partners without detection. This isn't a string of isolated crimes — it's a normalized system that commodifies sexual violence against women and demands a reckoning.
While online networks amplify horrific behaviors like those in the Pelicot and Lyon bodyguard cases, framing them as proof of a monolithic, Western "rape culture" ignores the data to bury an inconvenient truth: over a quarter of those convicted in the Pelicot case were non-European immigrants, a stark overrepresentation that gets zero scrutiny. Ignoring imported misogynistic practices doesn't protect women, but sacrifices them to ideology. Real feminism demands confronting all uncomfortable data, not selective outrage.
