- Democratic U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar defeated Republican state House Speaker Lisa Demuth in Minnesota's governor's race Tuesday, becoming the first woman elected governor in the state's 168-year history. She will succeed Democrat Tim Walz.
- NBC News called the governor's race for Klobuchar at around 10 p.m. local time Tuesday, and later counts showed her with roughly 56% of the vote to about 43% for Demuth.
- In her victory speech Tuesday night, Klobuchar said that she would be a "transformative governor" and that she was "not interested in moving Minnesota to the left or the right." She also said, "Whether or not I got your vote, I will give you my best."

Klobuchar's win is a victory for decades of steady, pragmatic leadership over divisive partisanship. A record of taking on Big Pharma, standing up to the gun lobby and focusing on costs for housing, child care and health care is exactly what the governor's office needs. Best of all, a state singled out for federal retribution by Trump just sent back a loud no.
Republican narrative
Unless Klobuchar stands up to the fringes of her party, this sweep in St. Paul will bring the same tax-and-spend habits that turned a surplus into a deficit. DeMuth would've brought limited government, fiscal restraint and independent, principled leadership to check the far-left agenda. Hopefully, Minnesota families squeezed by costs and fraud scandals get the accountability they deserve.
