Version 7.7.3
Kansas voters saw right through the GOP's attempt to quietly pack the Supreme Court with anti-abortion judges. The current system, which includes public interviews, livestreamed hearings and retention votes, already gives voters real accountability. Handing judicial selection to billionaire donors and partisan gerrymandering would have been a massive step backward for an independent judiciary.
This was a disappointing result. Kansas' current court selection process has handed a pro-abortion governor outsized influence, driving abortion numbers to nearly triple in recent years. Electing justices would have given everyday Kansans a direct say in choosing judges who reflect life-affirming values rather than allowing an unaccountable commission to shield the abortion industry.
