Version 7.13.0
Israel's justification for striking Abu al-Duhur Airbase keeps shifting — first it was proxy forces, then a supposed Turkish buildup, all within two hours. The Al-Sharra government has shown no aggressive posture and has actively signaled a desire for de-escalation. Airstrikes against a government seeking diplomacy undermine regional stability.
Israel struck Abu al-Duhur because Turkey was moving troops there, breaking an established security arrangement that Israel had explicitly warned against. Syria's new government lacks the capacity to control its own territory or to neutralize threats, so waiting for Damascus to act is not a viable option. Where real threats exist on the border, unilateral action is the only credible deterrent.
