Slovenia is a sovereign state and an equal member of the EU, not a servant obliged to rubber-stamp declarations against Israel. Throwing around accusations of genocide is a political stunt, especially while the EU stays silent about Turkey occupying half of Cyprus. Opening Israel's embassy simply normalizes foreign policy and repairs the economic damage done by years of left-wing extremism.
Rolling out the red carpet for a state accused of genocide, apartheid and ethnic cleansing will be remembered as a dark moment in Slovenian history. The people killed in Gaza, including tens of thousands of children, cannot be brushed for trade deals and embassy ribbon-cuttings. As a party to the Rome Statute, Slovenia is legally bound to investigate such crimes, no matter which government is in power.
