Clashes erupted in Yemen's Hodeida governorate over the weekend, with Houthi fighters reportedly killing 16 pro-government troops in Jabal Dabbas. Government sources alleged that 50 Houthis were killed in the fighting. A government-aligned officer described it as "the deadliest Houthi attack in years."

On Friday, Houthi spokesman Yahya Saree threatened to target Saudi airports and vital assets after accusing Saudi warplanes of attempting to block an Iranian civilian aircraft from landing at Sanaa International Airport. Separately, a cargo ship was attacked Sunday in the Red Sea roughly 30 nautical miles (55.6 km) southwest of Hodeida, Yemen, with a skiff approaching the bulk carrier and opening fire before retreating to a larger vessel. The ship's security guards returned fire, and the cargo ship and crew were reported safe.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the Red Sea attack. The Houthis had previously threatened to resume attacks on shipping and disrupted Red Sea traffic during the Gaza war, forcing vessels to reroute around Africa rather than pass through the Suez Canal.
