House Votes to Extend Haitian Temporary Protected Status Through 2029

Is extending TPS for Haitians a lifesaving necessity or a dangerous overstep that rewards a broken system?

The Spin

Anti-Trump narrative

Extending TPS for Haitians is the right call. Haiti is still crime-ridden, making deportation a death sentence for law-abiding people in America who work, pay taxes and strengthen communities. Plus, the United States has a workforce shortage that would be worsened by stripping 350,000 legal workers of their status. The Senate must act fast and finish the job.

Pro-Trump narrative

The House should not have passed this bill, and the Republicans who backed it are a disgrace. A program meant to be temporary has stretched 16 years and some Haitians benefiting from TPS have gone on to commit heinous crimes, proving the program's vetting failures carry deadly consequences. The White House would be right to veto this betrayal of voters.
