The X1 flight proves battery-electric aviation is finally leaving the lab and entering the real world. A 30-seat regional aircraft running on roughly $5 worth of electricity per flight could slash operating costs by over 40% compared to legacy planes. Major airlines backing this program know cheaper, cleaner regional flying is coming.
Techno-skeptic narrative
Batteries simply cannot match the energy density of jet fuel, making these aircraft a dead end for anything beyond short hops with barely any safety margin. Passengers would be better off just driving to their final destination instead of dealing with such limited range. Certification struggles for similar planes, stuck for years with no approval in sight, show that investors are chasing a fantasy.
