The Spin

Left narrative

The EU has finally done what needed doing by sanctioning violent Israeli settlers and their organizations for brutalizing Palestinians in the West Bank. Blocking trade with illegal settlements is the logical next step, and the momentum is clearly building. Allegations of ideological motivation are totally unfounded, as leading members of Hamas have been sanctioned alongside Israelis — this is about justice and the rule of law.

Pro-Israel narrative

The EU's sanctions are a politically motivated move that draws a deeply distorted moral equivalence between Israeli citizens and Hamas terrorists. Israel firmly rejects the notion that Jews defending their historic homeland deserve asset freezes and travel bans. Sanctioning specific settlers while Hamas continues to refuse disarmament exposes a glaring double standard at the heart of European foreign policy.
