- Eight U.S. states — Arkansas, Arizona, Idaho, Iowa, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska and West Virginia — sued OpenAI on Wednesday in separate state courts, accusing the ChatGPT maker of deceiving parents about the chatbot's safety and prioritizing profits.
- The complaints allege violations of state consumer protection laws and seek orders to change how ChatGPT works for young users, monetary damages and a halt to the development of self-improving AI systems until they are shown to align with human values.
- Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird said OpenAI is "hurting kids" and lying to Iowans, adding that the company rushed ChatGPT forward while knowing it was harming children and breaking state laws.
