The DOJ and FBI just delivered a major win against Chinese state-sponsored hackers. This aggressive cyber defense is what America needs, taking the fight directly to adversaries hiding behind obfuscation networks. Surging efforts against PRC-backed hacking are essential to protect the homeland.
Seizing a couple of domains means nothing when the Trump administration has gutted CISA by nearly a third and slashed budgets across every agency responsible for cyber defense. Salt Typhoon has burrowed into U.S. telecoms since at least 2023, exfiltrating data from over a million users. Dismantling the very agencies fighting these threats while celebrating small wins is a dangerously backward strategy.
China firmly opposes and combats all forms of cyberattacks in accordance with the law and rejects U.S. efforts to exploit cybersecurity issues to smear or discredit China. Beijing also opposes the overstretching of national security as a pretext for discriminatory restrictions on Chinese companies and will firmly safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese businesses.
