- Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning confirmed on Wednesday that Beijing was holding discussions over a possible meeting between Xi Jinping, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on the sidelines of the Nov. 18–19 APEC summit in Shenzhen later this month.
- The discussions follow two weeks of talks among U.S., Chinese and Russian officials over a potential first trilateral summit. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday that preparations were underway and expressed hope they would be completed within days.
- Trump signaled openness to the proposed summit in October, saying, "If President Xi wants to have it, I'd have it." While Chinese, Russian, and U.S. leaders have met separately before, they have never held formal talks together, making such a meeting unprecedented.
