Ahmed al-Ahmed, 44, was accused of assaulting his father by putting him in a headlock, and also faced an allegation of stalking and intimidating his parent when charges were brought against him in June.

He had pleaded not guilty but the charges were only formally dropped on Wednesday after a deal was reached in which Ahmed would comply with an apprehended domestic violence (ADV) order, placing limits on his contacts with his father for a period of 12 months.

Ahmed rose to national and international prominence after he successfully wrestled a weapon away from one of the two gunmen during an attack at a Jewish event at Sydney's Bondi Beach. 15 people were killed and dozens more were injured in the incident.

However, Ahmed later suffered five gunshot wounds in the incident and required multiple surgeries in an attempt to repair the nerve damage in his left arm. A fundraising campaign for him garnered over A$2.5 million ($1.77 million) in donations.

In a separate case, Ahmed's two brothers, Hozifa and Sameh, were charged with using a carriage service to harass or offend. It was alleged they tried to extort Ahmed for money from the fundraiser and police issued an ADV against the brothers. They have denied the charges and were granted bail.
