Burnham has placed himself in a strong position to win Makerfield and challenge Starmer for No. 10. But the question remains whether his appeal to the northern working-class will translate into any real change for the U.K. The country knows that the status quo is not good enough, but only time will tell if the Manchester mayor is the real answer to Britain's fundamental problems.
Burnham's Question Time admission is hardly a revelation, with the entirety of the country having been well aware of the Makerfield candidate's intentions for some time now. Instead, Thursday's flagship show was rather a reaffirmation of the declining quality of Britain's political and media class, with softball questions from an ideologically-liberal BBC vacuously answered by candidates mostly unfit for any public office.
