The Spin

Democratic narrative

Virginia's relative decline is a direct result of Republican policy. But instead of championing the state's interests, Virginia Republicans have cheered on the same federal cuts that have brought layoffs and uncertainty. Her loyalty to Trump over the Commonwealth demonstrates why Virginians can't afford to elect Winsome Earle-Sears as governor later this year.

Republican narrative

Contrary to CNBC's rankings, Virginia is stronger and more economically prosperous than ever — with record private sector and job growth, four consecutive years of budgetary surpluses, and $121 billion in committed private investment. The new ranking mistakenly includes methodology that falsely ascribes risk to Virginia's economy from the administration's federal spending policies.
