Boluarte's government clings to power through violent repression rather than popular support, so it's no surprise that police have fired tear gas and pellets at protesters — injuring nearly 20 people, including journalists. This dictatorship continues the brutal pattern that killed over 60 Peruvians in previous protests.
Transport workers and youth have legitimate grievances and deserve peaceful expression. That's precisely why police investigations into allegations of excessive use of force against protesters have been opened, and its findings will be shared with prosecutors.
