This finding comes from the world's leading association of genocide scholars and thus should be treated with merit. However, Israel rejects the allegations and most Western states, as well as the UN, have said they would only consider a finding from the International Court of Justice as authoritative on the matter.
These claims, based on recirculated Hamas lies and propaganda, are disgraceful. By not even checking the claims for themselves and even misconstruing what their underlying sources state, they are an embarrassment to the academic profession. It is Israel that was the victim of an intended genocide when Hamas launched its attack on October 7.
This latest finding only adds to the growing consensus among leading scholars of genocide that Israel is committing the crime in Gaza. However, that consensus will mean little to Palestinians unless it's followed by real political action. The insistence of many Western countries to await a ruling from the International Court of Justice — not expected until 2027 or 2028 — will be too late and simply make them complicit in what has happened.
