Germany's reversal on fast-track citizenship is a devastating blow to progress and integration. The policy made Germany more modern, open and just by rewarding immigrants who demonstrated exceptional commitment to society. Abolishing this reform sends the wrong signal at a time when the country desperately needs talent and engaged citizens.

Citizenship must come at the end of successful integration, not as an incentive at the beginning. The scheme attracted minimal use and became a pull factor for irregular migration at a time when public services were overwhelmed.
